Our Mission with Indigenous Peoples
International Progress and Indigenous Challenges
While significant advancements have been made internationally on indigenous issues, including the landmark adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in 2007, indigenous communities continue to face significant challenges. Representing approximately 6.2% of the global population, these communities are disproportionately affected by climate change, poverty, and marginalization.
Despite widespread recognition of their vital role in safeguarding global biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples’ resource-rich territories remain subject to corporate interests. Activities such as mining, forest exploitation, conservation and carbon capturing schemes, bio-piracy, and the patenting of traditional knowledge often violate the right to free, prior, and informed consent.
Bridging the Gap Between International Standards and Community-Level Action
The international scene can often seem distant and abstract to indigenous communities, many of whom face limited access to education and technology. To address this gap, our organization provides tools that make key concepts of the UN rights framework accessible through visually engaging media adapted to their needs and oral traditions.
Amplifying Indigenous Voices
By partnering with various organizations and indigenous networks, we distribute these video tools to a wide audience. This helps to amplify the voices of indigenous leaders at the global decision-making level, promoting indigenous rights and exposing environmental and climate change injustices.
Key Objectives:
- Empower indigenous communities: Provide them with the tools and knowledge to advocate for their rights.
- Raise awareness: Increase global understanding of the challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples.
- Promote collaboration: Foster partnerships between indigenous communities, international organizations, and policymakers.
- Advocate for change: Support the implementation of policies that respect the rights of Indigenous Peoples and protect their lands.
